These often comprise a combination of state-mandated fees, sales tax based on the sale price, and a registration tax that is applicable to new registrations. Additionally, if the original Title is lost or damaged, a fee of $20.50 is typically charged for issuing a duplicate title. Expedited service options are also available, usually for an additional fee, enabling quicker processing of the required documents.
The DMV offers an expedited title service, which allows vehicle owners to receive their titles faster than the standard processing time. For a small additional fee, this service is typically available during specific business hours. For those who have lost, had stolen, or mutilated their original title, a duplicate can be issued following a formal application and the payment of the standard duplicate title fee. This duplicate is usually received within ten business days.
In situations where vehicle ownership is transferred under special circumstances, such as the death of the previous owner or the transfer of a vehicle to a revocable living trust, specific paperwork and procedures must be adhered to. These cases require additional documentation and often involve complex legal processes, including possible court involvement.
